VW Tiguan: Volkswagen PartsFinally Volkswagen’s new compact SUV which is smaller than the Touareg has been given a name. It will now be called 'Tiguan'. This vehicle is inspired from Volkswagen’s Concept A introduced at Geneva Auto Show last March.

Choosing the name for the said SUV was done in an exciting manner since VW decided to hold a contest and let readers of the German weekly magazine AutoBild to vote for the names that they think best suits the new SUV.

Volkswagen offered five possible monikers for the compact SUV and these names were Nanuk, Tiguan, Rockton, Namib and Samun. There’s an overwhelming response from the magazine’s readers and more than 350,000 votes were gathered and majority of it favored the name Tiguan which is a combination of Tiger and Leguan (German for Iguana).

The Tiguan is said to signify the transition of the successful Touareg philosophy towards the compact SUV class which is now continuously growing. The exotic sounding name also depicts excitement, travel and adventure which also represent Tiguan’s excellent driving dynamics and high comfort levels for urban driving and even in challenging road conditions.

Production of Toureg’s little brother will be in Wolfsburg and it will go on sale in Europe by 2007 and will also come to the U.S. in 2008.
